I am the original writer of all my songs. My ability to express myself through songwriting didn’t just begin. I discovered my ability to write during my teen years. Whenever I would face challenges, I found that writing was very therapeutic for me. It offered me a form of emotional and spiritual relief to write my feelings on paper. However, I wasn’t just writing down my thoughts; there was a rhythmic, poetic nature to it. A texture and depth that seemed to bring life to my style of writing. In school, I was never good at spelling and grammar, so it was habit-forming for me to write like I spoke. Though my writing was filled with misspelled words and grammatical errors, I was more concentrated on what I was trying to relay, rather than the grammatical way of relaying it.

 

Over the years, I would write and compose hundreds of poems/songs that would just lie dormant because I never thought my writing had the potential or power to deliver empowerment in the lives of those who read or heard them. I unexpectedly lost my husband of nearly 25 years, and two years prior to that, I lost my second-oldest son. With so much loss and pain in my life, I decided I was going to use my pain as a portal for power. I began writing again, but this time I was inspired to take my writings off the shelf of life and put them on tracks to inspire others. Though I do sing, I don’t sing on the scale of what I desire to be able to manifest the fullness of my songs, so I incorporated the assistance of AI. With this tool, I was able fully generate my words into an expression that defined my feelings entirely.

Being called as a preacher of the gospel, at the age of 19, for 30 plus years, I have walked faithfully to that call. And for the past 17 years, I have founded and pastored my church, which consists of thriving, dedicated people of God, from ages 22 to 60. Both my church family, my natural family, and my professional friends encouraged me to take my music to the world. It was then that I discovered that I had a talent to not just write in one specific genre, but write in numerous genres. Because my music is rooted in truth, layered in pain, and covered in reality, I began to think about a name for my particular brand of music. I began to think about how, after a Bee Stings a person, though it initially stings, with the proper antidote, the pain eventually stops. It was through this realization that I came up with the name for my music, Bee Sting Truth. It was perfect for my style of writing because, though it shows the pain, it also promotes the power!

 

Though things in life will sting us, if we keep going, eventually we will overcome every problem through the power of Jesus Christ every single time. So, I’m not in this to become famous or to be a music guru. I’m not here to compete with anyone, but to move in my own grace and in my own space at my own pace. I just want my music to be a platform of hope with the gospel at its core and hope in every song. I pray that my music will resonate in the lives of those who hear it, and they can be touched, healed, and made whole through it. Whether it’s through my writing genre of worship, love, or just to get one’s life realigned to make better choices in life, that is why I created Bee Sting Truth.
